Reinardus
is a Dutch painter who lives and works in Sint-Martens-Latem (Belgium). He graduated as a graphic designer but painting has always been his first love. It all started with the simple lines and bright colours that he found in comic books as a child. Over the years, his art has evolved from simple cartoonlike drawings to a more realistic style. These days, his interest lies primarily in portraying the human soul. In his current series ‘ H U M A N N A T U R E ’ he distils strong inner portraits from old paintings of landscapes and still lifes from the last century.
By painting away the outer world of his silhouettes on those canvases, he creates a kind of x-ray view of the inner human. The soul reveals itself with all its feelings, thought processes and dream worlds. These portraits have a surrealist touch that we also find in René Margritte's work.
